Dental Checkup

Do you know why dentists recommend having a dental checkup every six months?

Regular dental examinations are essential for maintaining the health of your teeth and gums. At least once every six months, or as indicated by your dental expert, you should visit the dentist.

What occurs during your dental appointment?
A typical dental appointment consists of two parts: a checkup, or examination, and a cleaning, or oral prophylaxis.
Your dental expert will check for cavities during your dental checkup. To discover cavities between your teeth, X-rays may be taken. Your teeth will be checked for plaque and tartar during the exam. Plaque is a bacterial coating that is transparent and sticky. It can harden and form tartar if not removed. Brushing and flossing are ineffective in removing tartar. Plaque and tartar can cause oral illnesses if they build up on your teeth.
Your gums will next be examined. The depth of the gaps between your teeth and gums will be measured using a specific equipment. The gaps between the teeth are shallow in those who have healthy gums. Gum disease can cause the gaps between the teeth to widen.

Never forget to smile!
